an article about Gore's recent weight gain. Out of nowhere, at the very end, there is this snippit:
"I told Tipper I would take two years [deciding whether or not to run in 2004] and try to get some financial security," said Gore, who has taken a job as vice chairman of Metropolitan West Financial, a Los Angeles-based financial services holding company.
Tipper Gore piped up from the front row: "Good timing!"
Gore, who had criticized the administration's handling of the economy in his speech Wednesday, laughed and said: "I wish I'd tried to do this during the Clinton-Gore years."
I guess he is saying that he wishes he'd tried to become financially secure while he was Vice President. Very oddly placed, though. At first I thought he meant criticizing the Clinton-Gore economic policies. Even so, he hasn't built up the slightest nest-egg during his ascension from the U.S. House to the Vice Presidency? That doesn't strike me as very good money management. Okay, you could say that he didn't believe it would be ethical to become wealthy while in public service. "Oh, nevermind that," he laughs off and essentially says, "I should have"
I personally prefer my original interpretation. He'd no doubt attack the Clinton-Gore policies from the left, damning what remains one of the only two things he has going for him.
Can I just continually take it out of context and pretend that's what he said, start an email forwarding tree, and say it enough that people think it's true?
[sigh] No. Durn morals.
