From the Drafts: Mountain Dew Pitch Blackout

Every now and again, I'll write a post and put it in the Drafts folder (or its Nucleus equivalent). Then I'll forget about it. Then, longer after it's relevent, I'll forget that I ever wrote it. This is one of those posts. Many of you are familiar with my fascination with Mountain Dew lines of drinks. Grape-flavored Pitch Black replaced my beloved Livewire a year or two back in their seasonal rotation. It did so poorly that they eventually had to start selling them 3/$1. This year they introduced Pitch Black II, or as I call it:
Mountain Dew Sour Grapes. Anyway, here's a post that I never posted on the Pitch Black of the old variety.
RAW: I'm not sure what I'm going to do with my Pitch Black.
Eel: Why did you buy it?
RAW: It's on sale. 3 for $1.
Eel: But you don't like it, do you?
RAW: No, but I was coming around.
Eel: But...?
RAW: I'm starting to feel sick every time I drink it.
Eel: Then don't drink it. It won't go bad if it sits in the fridge a few days.
RAW: But I don't know how long this is going to last. It might make me sick in the forseeable future.
Eel: Then don't drink it!
RAW: But it'll go bad. I learned that with the Livewire. Except that Pitch Black isn't as good. I can't imagine how bad it would be flat.
Eel: There are worse things than letting a drink go bad.
RAW: Yeah, a thirty-three cent drink.
Eel: Yeah.
RAW: That I don't like very much.
Eel: Yeah.
RAW: That's making me sick to my stomach.
Eel: ...
RAW: I should probably let this slide.
Eel: ...
Observations
I picked up some Pitch Black at a 3/$1 deal, and I thought it was utterly revolting.
My 7-year old liked it though.
Was this recently (with Pitch Black II) or a while back (the same deal I was commenting on in this post?). I'm curious if Sour Grapes is doing as poorly as Pitch Black did.
It was probably a month or two ago. It was Pitch Black and not Sour Grapes.
Though Sour Grapes did come to mind after trying it.
"Sour Grapes" is my nickname for "Pitch Black II" (see
http://raw360.com/item/2833)... if you had it a couple months ago, it was PB2 and thus Sour Grapes. The first brand wasn't sour at all. The sourness is something they added to mask the fact that it was a really, really crappy drink. They stopped making the first one because it was a really, really crappy drink. So crappy, in fact, that it helped ween me off of soft drinks for a while. The new stuff must not be doing well if they're selling it at 3/$1.
The 8 year old in our house likes it. Come to think of it, so do bees. On our way back from leaving Houston (Rita), we stopped to get some drinks. He wanted pitch black: the sequel. He ended up spilling it in his lap. At our next pitstop, there were quite a few bees flying about. They all loved to land on his pitch black stained shorts.
