Blog... Slowly... Dying....
R. Alex Whitlock
All is not well in blogland. No, I'm not going on another hiatus (though posting next week will be light). Nucleus appears to have an ongoing grudge with my current host, or is dying. I had to take my blogroll off the main page last week. This week it's making me log on between every single screen that I use, which makes short posts take longer when I don't have wbloggar handy.

With a lot of help from my good man (and frequent commenter) Mike Ahlf, I'm getting set up with a new host shortly that will be powered with Nuke Nucleus 3.0. It will hopefully be up in a week or two.

Once that is done, I would greatly appreciate your help in gettin the NLJ moved over to Nuke. Ever since moving the site to Mike's machine, Blogger does not want to update it at all.

The problem with your blogroll isn't Nucleus. The problem with your blogroll has something to do with how you're doing your PHP includes, and almost certainly involves something your (inferior Windows Server) host has done with the server settings or with the php setup. It's probably been caused by some patch they recently applied, because as I've told you in several emails, the error msgs your blogroll is generating were error msgs that were all over the web at the same time you were getting them (you can google them to see, but most are fixed now, suggesting there IS a fix). Since it was a widespread problem that appears to be resolved now on most sites, one would think someone has solved it.

Question for any PHP/Windows Server gurus out there -- you could really help Alex clear up his problems if you could explain why Windows Server would generate this type of warning from innocuous looking php include statements (that aren't causing similar problems on apaches servers *smile*):

[function.main]: cannot represent a stream of type socket as a STDIO FILE* in d:\208.187.245.143\blogrolodexical.php on line 39

Warning: main() [function.main]: Failed opening 'http://www.raw360.com/skins...' for inclusion (include_path='.;c:\php4\pear') in d:\208.187.245.143\blogrolodexical.php on line 39

BTW, just a word of warning (in case you ever go to the boards for support): the Nucleus community would cringe if they saw you calling the software Nuke as you do. Generally, the Nuke designation refers to -nuke like portal-type CMSs such as PHP Nuke and Post Nuke.

The Nucleus community tends to think of their software as superior (for good reason), and the Nuke name as pejorative. :)

Kevin,

My assumption was the the blogroll problem was not Nucleus until the other problems started happening: constant need to re-log inand I can't upload pictures through the interface any more. Then I figured that the Nucleus file itself may have been corrupted at some point. Or there's just some sort of incompatibility brewing between Nucleus and my server.

Thanks for the warning :).

Adam,

I redirected everything to an unused folder over here (http://www.raw360.com/somet...) and it did update the material. I tried to toy around with it some more but I don't have the password to the new No-Lyfe site, so you'll need to get that to me when you get a chance.

Regardless, it looks like it's something about Mike's space specifically that's not letting it go through. Not sure what that would be, though.

Comment spam is an ongoing problems that we're trying to address. Previously we required people to create accounts and log in. I am thankful to say that is no longer the case. We're giving Captcha another try and are playing around with a text-based Q&A variant of Captcha. So bear with us as we try to figure out how to best get a handle ont he problem. Please note that any comment on a post more than 30 days old will go into the moderation queue, where I will get to it when I can which could be once a week.
